Jodie Marsh was born on December 23, 1978 in Brentwood, Essex, England.
Raised in an affluent home, she benefitted by being sent to an expensive
private school. She was not happy there, as such environments can be
infested by teasing and bullying, allegedly because she chose an
academic school life rather than a social life. At age fifteen, Jodie
was given cosmetic surgery to correct a crooked nose, caused by a
childhood hockey accident. The change brought her a newfound confidence
and she soon headed toward modeling. She changed schools and after
classes found work as a stripper from where she was discovered by
British tabloids, and invited to become a "Page 3 girl." In January
2003, she was featured on the television documentary, Essex Wives. The
study focused on affluent, glossy women who were determined to improve
their lives. The show brought Jodie much publicity, both positive and
negative. From there she launched a career as a glamour model,
acquiring instant work and publicity.
From the tabloids, Jodie went on to star in a variety of reality shows,
like many television personalities to come, another being Californian Veronica Portillo.
Along with the fame came difficulties associated with those in the
spotlight, including her own stalker, not to mention spats with other
glamour models, (a kind of event associated with entertainment
spectacles, as much artifice as reality). Her fame has continued with a
string of semi-famous boyfriends and ongoing publicity opportunities.
