Kelly Hu
Kelly Hu was born Kelly Ann Hu on February 13, 1968, in Honolulu Hawaii,
with roots that combine English, Chinese, and Hawaiian, much like another
Honolulu beauty with mixed heritage,
Patricia Ford, the "beautiful flower". As Kelly grew up,
she started a modeling career, and later agreed to enter the local Miss
Teen USA pageant. She surprised everyone by winning not only the
pageant but went on to win Miss Teen USA in 1985. After school, she
moved to los Angeles to pursue an acting career, during which time she
continued to receive many modeling assignments, thanks to her Teen USA
title. She achieved many commercial contracts for well-known companies
including Mary Kay Cosmetics, Vidal Sassoon, and Italian commercials for
Philadelphia Cream Cheese. She appeared as Miss Hawaii in the 1993 Miss
USA pageant. This was followed by television and cinema roles, her first
role in "Growing Pains," "Melrose Place," and many other series. Her
cinema roles were mostly unspectacular, but it was when she went back to
television that she appeared in the well-known "Martial Law" with Sammo
Hung and later in "Nash Bridges" where she had the chance to use her
karate skills. Better known films followed, including "The Scorpion
King" and "X-Men 2."
