Milla Jovovich (pronounced yo-VO-vitch) was born Militza Natasha
Jovovich on December 17, 1975 in Kiev in the Ukraine to a Serbian father
and a Russian mother. When Milla was only five years old, her family
moved to Sacramento, California, not far from the birthplace of brunette
modeling sensation, Linda O'Neil. At
an early age, Milla showed an interest in modeling and started before
she was even a teenager. Fluent in Russian, English, French and Serbian,
the young girl advanced to supermodel status, appearing in most major
International magazines.
Milla's interest in acting (as well as music), enabled her to capture roles
in "The Night Train to Kathmandu" (1988), "Return to the Blue Lagoon"
(1991), "Chaplin" (1992), "Dazed and Confused" (1993), the popular Bruce
Willis science fiction film "The Fifth Element" in which Milla appeared
as Leeloo, a red-haired gun-toting hunter. More recently she appeared
in the 2001 Ben Stiller fashion spoof, "Zoolander," and the 2002 film
"Resident Evil." In 1992, Milla married for the first time to Shawn
Andrews, but the married was annulled shortly thereafter. She later
married the director of "The Fifth Element," Luc Besson in 1997, but
they later divorced.
